VeryDarkMan Calls Out Federal Government Over Alleged Abandonment of Nigerian Students in Morocco

Popular Nigerian social media activist, Martin Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan, has publicly criticised the Federal Government over the alleged abandonment of Nigerian students studying in Morocco under a government-sponsored scholarship programme.

In a video shared on his official social media platforms, VeryDarkMan expressed deep concern over the welfare of the affected students, accusing the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of failing to fulfil its responsibilities to young Nigerians sent abroad for education. Akahi News reports that the video has since sparked widespread reactions across social media, with many Nigerians demanding urgent government intervention.

According to VeryDarkMan, the students in Morocco have reportedly been left without adequate financial support, forcing some of them to beg for money to survive. He alleged that despite the existence of a budget for the scholarship programme, the relevant authorities have failed to release funds to cater for the students’ basic needs, including feeding and accommodation.

In the caption accompanying the video, the activist wrote strong words criticising the government, stating that Nigerians have been given “stone instead of bread” and warning that the future of Nigerian youths is at risk under what he described as poor governance.

Claims of Death and Call for Accountability

VeryDarkMan further alleged that one of the Nigerian students on the Moroccan scholarship programme has reportedly died due to the harsh conditions faced by the students. He identified the deceased as Bashir Malami, offering condolences while urging the authorities to take responsibility. Akahi News notes that these claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified at the time of filing this report.

The activist also directly called out the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, questioning why students were sent abroad only to be allegedly abandoned. He insisted that the minister’s office should provide clarity on the status of the scholarship funds and the welfare of the affected students.

Public Reactions and Growing Pressure

The video has intensified public discourse around the management of foreign scholarship schemes and the broader issue of student welfare. Many Nigerians online have echoed VeryDarkMan’s concerns, urging the Federal Government to urgently investigate the situation and ensure the safety and wellbeing of Nigerian students abroad.

As of the time of this report, there has been no official response from the Federal Ministry of Education or other relevant government agencies regarding the allegations.

Akahi News gathered that Nigerians are closely watching developments, with expectations that the authorities will address the matter transparently and take swift action if the claims are found to be true.
