Wike Commends Tinubu for Restoring Democracy in Rivers State After Lifting Emergency Rule
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as a courageous and democratic decision to lift the emergency rule earlier imposed on Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the FCT Minister said the President’s timely intervention had not only restored democratic governance but also rekindled hope and confidence among the people of Rivers State.

Tinubu’s Action Described as a Step Toward Peace
According to Wike, President Tinubu’s move reflects his unwavering dedication to peace, stability, and the sustenance of democracy across Nigeria. The former Rivers governor noted that the President’s proactive leadership had averted further political tension and safeguarded the integrity of governance in the state.
Wike emphasised that the decision has reaffirmed Tinubu’s image as a leader who places national unity and the well-being of citizens above partisan interests.
Rivers People Urged to Unite for Progress
The FCT Minister also commended the people of Rivers State for their patience, resilience, and continued support for the President’s reform agenda aimed at restoring progress and development nationwide.
He urged political stakeholders and community leaders in the state to work harmoniously in the collective interest of the people, stressing that unity and cooperation were vital for sustained peace.
In his words, Wike cautioned political agitators and what he termed “fifth columnists” to refrain from exploiting the crisis for selfish gains, asserting that “from Rivers State going forward, the only news that will emanate will be that of peace, progress and development.”
Restoring Confidence in Democracy
Observers believe that the lifting of the emergency rule could mark a turning point in Rivers’ political landscape, especially after months of tension between various power blocs in the state. Akahi News gathered that Wike’s commendation of Tinubu may also signal a renewed commitment to national unity and reconciliation efforts within the ruling political circles.
As political calm returns to Rivers, attention now shifts to how the state government will consolidate peace and rebuild trust among its citizens.
