Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has openly restated his unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu, pledging to back any political figure who aligns with the President. Wike made the remarks on Wednesday, 21st August 2025, during the flag-off of Lot 2 of the Water Supply Projects in Karu, Abuja.

Speaking at the event, Wike praised key political figures within the FCT, including former Senator representing the territory, Philip Aduda, and the current Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu, for their contributions to local development. He emphasised that in politics and governance, it is important to support those who have the ear of government, stressing that loyalty to the President would serve as a pathway to attracting projects and benefits for communities.

“Anybody who supports Tinubu, I will support him,” Wike declared, reinforcing his stance that development thrives when leaders align with the federal government. He further assured that Maikalangu’s position as AMAC chairman would continue to draw government support because of his loyalty to the President’s leadership.

The former Rivers State Governor has consistently affirmed his allegiance to President Tinubu since the 2023 general elections, despite being a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His open admiration for Tinubu’s policies and leadership style has sparked debates within the PDP, with critics accusing him of undermining party cohesion ahead of the 2027 elections.

Wike, however, has maintained that his decision is rooted in pragmatism and the pursuit of effective governance. He has repeatedly argued that Tinubu’s bold decisions, such as the removal of fuel subsidy and efforts at infrastructure renewal, reflect the kind of leadership Nigeria needs.

His latest remarks are expected to intensify political discussions as Nigeria heads towards another election cycle. While some see his position as a strategy to secure federal attention for the FCT, others view it as a clear indication of where his political loyalty firmly lies.

Wike’s statement underscores the shifting alliances within Nigeria’s political space, where loyalty to the ruling power often transcends strict party affiliations. As the 2027 elections draw closer, his continued support for Tinubu is likely to shape the dynamics of both the APC and the PDP in the battle for national dominance.
