Wike: Nigerians Owe President Tinubu for His Leadership and Development Achievements
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that Nigerians owe a debt of gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, crediting the administration’s recorded successes to the president’s visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to national development.

Wike made this assertion during the commissioning of completed access roads in Sector Centre B, located near the Dakibiyu District of Abuja, where he emphasised that the infrastructural progress witnessed in the FCT stands as a testament to Tinubu’s leadership style.
“By Mr President’s leadership, all the roads here have now been completed, and in the next few months, we will be here again. The Court of Appeal Division will soon be inaugurated by Mr President,” Wike announced.
‘Tinubu’s Leadership Making the Difference’
The former Rivers State governor, who has become one of the most visible members of the Tinubu cabinet, reiterated that leadership remains the defining factor behind government performance.
“I have always said that when you have the right leadership, you can achieve unexpected results. Tinubu has shown the right leadership, and that is why we are able to achieve. Talking about the achievements we have made, it is because of the right leadership,” he said.
Wike’s remarks come amid widespread debate over the federal government’s performance since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023. While critics have raised concerns about economic hardship and inflation, the minister maintained that transformational leadership often attracts criticism but ultimately delivers visible impact.
“Nigerians, we owe a lot to the president, and I have always said, yes, tongues will wag, but when you are focused, you will achieve results,” Wike stated.
He also reflected on the transformation of the Dakibiyu District, describing it as a once-neglected area now revitalised under the president’s urban renewal drive.
“I’m sure all those who walk around this place will begin to reminisce — was this where we used to walk? This is the Dakibiyu District that we used to come to?” he asked rhetorically, drawing applause from attendees.
Infrastructure Development as a Hallmark of Tinubu’s Agenda
Since assuming office, President Tinubu’s administration has prioritised the completion of abandoned projects, particularly within the Federal Capital Territory. Under Wike’s supervision, several major road networks and district infrastructure have been fast-tracked, symbolising what many observers describe as renewed urgency in governance delivery.
Projects under completion or recently inaugurated include:
- Mabushi–Jahi Road Expansion
- Guzape District Access Roads
- Southern Parkway Development
- Rehabilitation of Central Area Links
These efforts align with the administration’s broader “Renewed Hope Agenda,” aimed at accelerating infrastructural growth and improving urban connectivity within the capital.
Wike, who has earned a reputation for his “talk-and-do” approach, said the FCT Administration is determined to sustain momentum, ensuring that no completed project is left unutilised and no district remains underdeveloped.
Political Implications and Public Reaction
Analysts believe Wike’s open commendation of Tinubu’s leadership serves a dual purpose — highlighting his loyalty to the president while reinforcing the administration’s narrative of performance despite public discontent.
Political observers also see his remarks as part of a strategic effort to reshape public perception, particularly as economic reforms continue to bite. Wike’s comments underscore a growing pattern of intra-government solidarity, where ministers publicly defend and celebrate Tinubu’s achievements to boost public confidence.
However, critics argue that more must be done to translate such infrastructure success stories into tangible economic relief for Nigerians grappling with high living costs.
Akahi News Insight
Wike’s statement reflects an emerging political reality — the Tinubu administration is banking on visible infrastructural progress to strengthen its legacy amid economic turbulence. Roads, bridges, and institutional projects like the Court of Appeal Division are intended not only as developmental milestones but also as symbols of governance credibility.
Akahi News observes that this communication strategy — emphasising “leadership results” over “economic discomfort” — may help the government consolidate support ahead of 2027. Yet, sustaining citizens’ trust will require translating visible infrastructure into everyday benefits such as improved transportation, reduced cost of living, and job creation.
For many Nigerians, Wike’s declaration that the nation “owes the president” will resonate only if leadership-driven achievements begin to ease daily hardships. Until then, the true measure of success will rest not in political praise but in the lived realities of the people.
