Abuja-Kaduna Train Service to Resume Next Week After Repairs and Safety Checks
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that the Abuja-Kaduna passenger train service will resume next week following a one-month suspension caused by track damage at Asham. The announcement brings relief to thousands of commuters who rely heavily on the busy corridor for daily travel.

Repairs Completed, Safety Standards Upgraded
Akahi News gathered that the service was halted on 26 August 2025 after a derailment incident forced the NRC to suspend operations pending comprehensive repairs and safety inspections.
In a statement signed by the corporation’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the NRC disclosed that all necessary repairs and rigorous safety checks have been completed.
“We have restored both the infrastructure and rolling stock to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices,” the statement noted, assuring passengers of enhanced safety going forward.
Refunds for Affected Passengers
As part of efforts to address passenger welfare, the NRC confirmed that 512 out of the 583 passengers affected by the suspension have already received refunds, with arrangements underway to reimburse the remaining passengers.
The corporation expressed appreciation to commuters for their patience and understanding, reiterating that passenger safety and comfort remain its top priorities.
Federal Support and Stakeholder Collaboration
The NRC also acknowledged the vital support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and other stakeholders, whose cooperation enabled a swift recovery process.
Official details on the exact resumption date and updated schedules will be announced in the coming days, with passengers advised to monitor official channels for further information.
Looking Ahead
With the Abuja-Kaduna route set to reopen, stakeholders believe the enhanced safety measures will restore public confidence in the rail system, which has become an essential transport link between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
