An Abuja resident was left in disbelief after a watermelon in her kitchen reportedly exploded overnight, scattering its contents across the floor.
In a viral video circulating online, the woman is seen walking into her kitchen to discover the fruit burst open with foam and debris spread around. She revealed that the watermelon appeared perfectly fresh when purchased, with no visible signs of spoilage.
Unusual Incident Sparks Online Reactions
According to the woman, she had heard an unusual sound during the night but only realised its source when she found the shattered fruit in the morning. While inspecting the remains, she remarked that the watermelon’s skin felt “like plastic” and seemed unusual compared to a normal watermelon.
Her comments have since triggered widespread speculation on social media, with many users suggesting the fruit could have been genetically modified (GMO). Others believe the explosion might be linked to fermentation caused by excessive heat or improper storage.
