A disturbing incident at the 22 PMF Barracks, Ogudu, Lagos, has sent shockwaves through both the policing community and the public, as three police inspectors have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a colleague’s son into a coma over a personal dispute.

Incident Overview
According to sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday when Inspectors John Alom (63 PMF Ikorodu), Sunday Adoga (CTU Base 2 Ikeja), and Jehovah Usam (22 PMF Ikeja) allegedly lured the victim, 22-year-old Jacob Sunday, into their quarters.
Jacob, reportedly the son of Inspector Sunday Ochepo, was accused of having an affair with Sarah Richard, the wife of ASP Audu Richard, who also resides in the barracks. The allegation escalated into a violent attack, during which the victim was stripped naked and beaten until he lost consciousness. He was later rescued by detectives and taken to the Police College Cottage Hospital, Ikeja, where he remains in the emergency unit.
Context and Implications
This case raises serious concerns about abuse of authority, misconduct, and internal policing culture. Police barracks are meant to be secure environments, yet incidents like this highlight vulnerabilities in accountability mechanisms. That the alleged perpetrators are serving officers underscores the urgent need for robust oversight and disciplinary measures within the force.
Analysts point out that incidents of interpersonal disputes escalating into violence within security institutions not only endanger lives but also erode public trust in law enforcement. While the officers have been arrested and detained pending investigation, the psychological and social impact on the victim and the broader barracks community cannot be overstated.
Accountability and the Way Forward
The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway. Observers suggest that beyond arresting the immediate perpetrators, the force must review internal grievance handling, conduct ethics training, and implement preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences.
This case also highlights the intersection of personal conflicts and professional boundaries, emphasising the need for strict adherence to professional conduct codes. Failure to address these systemic issues may risk repetition of such violent acts within policing environments.
As investigations continue, public attention remains sharply focused on how the Lagos State Police Command handles this case, setting a precedent for accountability and institutional reform.
