APC Italy Lauds Tinubu’s Achievements, Urges Appointment of Ambassadors

Diaspora Chapter Congratulates Nigeria at 65
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Italy Chapter has joined Nigerians in celebrating the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary while commending President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what it described as bold and progressive strides under his Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a communiqué issued after its Independence Day event in Italy, the chapter highlighted its role as one of the most vibrant APC diaspora branches in Europe, pledging loyalty to the administration and reaffirming its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s global image.
According to Akahi News findings, the statement was signed by Prince Chima Ibezim, Chairman of APC Italy Chapter, who doubles as the Continental Vice Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Europe (NIDO Europe).
Call for Ambassadorial Appointments
A central demand in the communiqué was the urgent need for the Federal Government to appoint ambassadors across key Nigerian missions worldwide.
The group argued that many APC diaspora leaders, having lived abroad for years, possess invaluable knowledge of international relations and the challenges faced by Nigerians in the diaspora. Appointing them into ambassadorial roles, they maintained, would be “a gigantic positive achievement” for the Tinubu administration.
Akahi News gathered that the call for representation is also aimed at deepening the bond between the ruling party’s leadership at home and its supporters abroad.
APC Italy Reaffirms Support for Renewed Hope Agenda
Prince Ibezim, speaking on behalf of the chapter and the APC Committee of Diaspora Chapters (CDC), congratulated Nigeria on its 65th anniversary, noting that the administration’s policies have started yielding positive changes.
The statement reassured Nigerians that the diaspora wing remains committed to supporting national development while lobbying for policies that benefit both citizens at home and abroad.
Those present at the Italy Independence Day gathering included senior officials such as Hon. Seyi Shallum (Deputy Chairman, South), Hon. Lady Sandra Edoga (National Secretary), Hon. Princess Titilope Hassan (Welfare Secretary), Hon. Julios Osasehi (Publicity Secretary), Chief Mrs. Doris Okafor (Women Leader), and other executive members.
Mixed Reactions Trail Diaspora Politics
While the communiqué has been praised in pro-government circles, critics argue that APC’s expansion abroad is politically motivated. Reactions monitored on online forums revealed concerns that diaspora chapters may be used for political fundraising and influence peddling rather than genuine representation of Nigerians overseas.
Some commentators also questioned whether diaspora groups should have a strong say in Nigeria’s domestic policies, especially when they are not directly affected by local governance challenges.
Nonetheless, supporters of the move insist that Nigerians abroad remain vital stakeholders whose remittances and expertise continue to shape the nation’s economy and global reputation.
The APC Italy Chapter’s call for ambassadorial appointments underscores the growing influence of diaspora communities in Nigerian politics. As President Tinubu continues to project his Renewed Hope Agenda, whether or not these calls translate into tangible policy changes remains to be seen.
