The General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has stirred controversy after declaring that oral sex between married couples is not sinful.

In a video that surfaced on YouTube on 22 August 2025, the cleric was responding to a congregant’s question during a church service. A woman, believed to be in her 50s, asked him directly: “Daddy, Sir, is oral sex a sin?”

Apostle Suleman, popularly called “Daddy” by his members, chuckled before replying:
“Anything you do with your wife indoors is not a sin. So long as she’s your wife and both of you agree to do it, (it is not a sin).”

Quoting from the Bible, the preacher suggested that scriptures about “the wife of your youth” and “letting your hands pass through her cisterns” implied conjugal freedom. He emphasised that unless sexual acts are fetish, ritualistic, or diabolic, they are not sinful.

Addressing concerns that the mouth should not be used for sexual activity since it is meant for prayer, he retorted in Pidgin English:
“Don’t you use the same mouth to gossip? Don’t you use the same mouth to tell lies?”

The cleric urged couples not to deny their spouses’ sexual needs, stressing: “Save your home, save your home.”

However, medical experts have long cautioned against oral sex due to health risks. According to Dr Adegboyega Fawole, a gynaecologist at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, the practice can expose individuals to Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infections, which increase the risk of oral cancers, cervical cancer, genital warts, and anal cancer.

Similarly, Dr Bamidele Mutiu, a consultant microbiologist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, explained in 2021 that sexually transmitted disease-causing organisms present in genital secretions are not destroyed by saliva, thereby raising the risk of infections.

The preacher’s remarks have divided opinions, with some praising him for being liberal about conjugal intimacy, while others insist the practice is both unbiblical and unsafe.

As debates continue, Apostle Suleman has maintained he is unfazed by criticism, declaring that couples should prioritise harmony and mutual consent in their marriages.
