Atiku Aligns with ADC to Champion National Movement

Former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has reiterated that his political mission is centred on building a better Nigeria, not on pursuing the presidency at all costs.

Atiku made this known on Saturday in Lagos during an affirmation ceremony where prominent figures from the PDP and the Labour Party officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Represented by Prof. Ola Olateju of Achievers University, Owo, Atiku said the ADC-led coalition is envisioned as a national movement rather than a conventional political party.

‘It’s Not About Atiku or Obi, It’s About Nigeria’

“Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. So, it’s not about him being the president. It’s about having a government that will deliver for Nigerians,” Prof. Olateju said on his behalf.

The former PDP leader recently resigned from the party, alongside other opposition figures, to embrace the ADC, which he believes offers a more credible platform to reposition Nigeria in the face of economic hardship, subsidy removal, and rising inflation.

Atiku also assured that the ADC’s 2027 presidential candidate would emerge through a transparent and fair process, emphasising that the coalition is driven by collective aspirations rather than individual ambitions.

“The point is a better Nigeria, not Atiku for president at all costs, not Obi for president at all costs. Whoever picks the ticket shall represent the collective voice and aspiration of Nigerians,” he said.

Call for Collective Support

The former vice president urged Nigerians to rally behind the ADC coalition, stressing that through unity of purpose and divine guidance, the movement could deliver competent, compassionate, and transformative leadership.

According to him, the real challenge is not merely winning elections but ensuring that governance is people-centred and capable of restoring hope to Nigerians.

Conclusion

With this latest move, Atiku Abubakar positions himself as a statesman advocating for national renewal rather than personal ambition, signalling that the 2027 general elections may usher in a new phase of coalition-driven politics in Nigeria.
