Kaduna Millennium City Specialist Hospital Lies Deserted Two Months After Tinubu’s Commissioning

Residents Decry Non-Functionality of 300-Bed Facility

Barely two months after its grand commissioning by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Kaduna Millennium City Specialist Hospital has been described by residents as deserted and non-functional, sparking outrage and disappointment among locals.

The 300-bed hospital, located in Millennium City, Kaduna State, was inaugurated in June 2025 as a flagship project in the state’s healthcare development agenda. However, residents claim that since the event, the facility has remained empty, with no staff or patients in sight.

‘We Don’t Know What Was Actually Commissioned’

On Saturday, August 23, 2025, Umar Baba-Ali, a former APC state delegate and resident of Millennium City, expressed his frustration after visiting the facility.

“I came to this hospital today, August 23, 2025, and as you can see, the place is empty,” he said. “We pass by here almost every day, and it is always the same — no one is around. With the announcement that the Millennium Hospital has been commissioned, we honestly do not understand what was actually commissioned.”

According to him, during Tinubu’s visit in June, temporary vehicles and equipment were brought in to give the impression of a functional facility. “The vehicles they brought when President Tinubu came for the commissioning have all vanished. Everything they brought during Tinubu’s visit is no longer there,” Baba-Ali lamented.

He emphasised that his concerns were not politically motivated but driven by the need for accountability. “This is not about politics. What we want is justice, not deception — people should not be misled into believing something was done when, in reality, it was not.”

A Project with Long History

Residents noted that the project was initiated by former Vice President Namadi Sambo, later completed under former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and finally inaugurated by Governor Uba Sani during President Tinubu’s visit.

Despite this long journey, the hospital is yet to begin operations. Many locals feel betrayed, as they had looked forward to accessible healthcare services.

Adding to their grievances is the decision to name the hospital after President Tinubu rather than Namadi Sambo, the original initiator of the project.

“It was Namadi Sambo who built the hospital, El-Rufai came to complete it, and later Uba Sani commissioned it. But today, the hospital remains deserted,” Baba-Ali said.

Cries for Leadership and Accountability

Residents have described the situation as a failure of leadership and governance, questioning why a major healthcare project that could serve thousands of people lies idle while the state continues to struggle with medical infrastructure.

In his remarks, Baba-Ali offered a prayer that reflected the frustration of many: “May God bless us with leaders who carry the love of their people in their hearts, and who remain faithful in their service. For the kind of leaders we have been given, O God, we ask for forgiveness. Please grant us the right leaders.”

The controversy surrounding the Kaduna Millennium City Specialist Hospital underscores growing concerns about tokenism in public projects and the practice of commissioning incomplete or non-functional facilities.

For residents of Millennium City, the unanswered question remains: when will the hospital truly open its doors to patients?
