Bandits Attack Kaduna Hospital, Abduct Patients and Medical Doctor

In another tragic incident highlighting the worsening insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, bandits in large numbers stormed a hospital in Kaduna State, abducting several patients and a medical doctor on duty.

According to information gathered by Akahi News, the armed assailants invaded Kujama town, the headquarters of Chikun Local Government Area, in the early hours of Tuesday and headed straight to the Nasara Nursing and Maternity Home.

Patients and Doctor Abducted

Eyewitnesses told Akahi News that the heavily armed bandits whisked away five patients, the medical doctor on duty, and a security guard. A source said one of the security personnel who tried to repel the attack was shot multiple times, sustaining serious injuries before being rushed to another hospital for urgent medical attention.

Houses Also Attacked

Residents disclosed to Akahi News that the rampaging attackers did not stop at the hospital but extended their assault to nearby houses, terrorising locals and causing panic across the community. The number of residents abducted outside the hospital remains unclear at the time of this report.

Series of Attacks in Kaduna

This latest attack adds to a string of violent incidents in Kaduna State. Akahi News recalls that just last Friday, two police officers were killed inside a Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa town, the headquarters of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, when bandits launched a deadly night raid.

Similarly, last Thursday, nine persons — including three minors — were killed in Layin Danauta village, Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, by another group of bandits. Akahi News gathered that the slain children were the daughters of Alhaji Salisu Maiwada, while the remaining victims included five married men and a young bachelor.

Several victims of that attack were said to be receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries at local hospitals.

Growing Concerns Over Security

Security experts who spoke to Akahi News expressed concern over the increasing boldness of bandits, particularly their growing tendency to target health facilities, schools, and security formations. They called for urgent government action and improved intelligence-sharing among security agencies to prevent further loss of lives.

Kaduna, one of the states worst hit by banditry, continues to record frequent assaults on communities, despite multiple security operations in the region.
