ADC Condemns Burning of Ekiti Office, Blames APC for Political Intimidation
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the burning of its Ekiti State office in Ado-Ekiti, describing the attack as a calculated act of political intimidation aimed at silencing the opposition ahead of the governorship election.

According to details obtained by Akahi News, the attack occurred just hours before the party’s scheduled “Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony” in Ado-Ekiti. In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said the act was both criminal and undemocratic, calling it a disgrace to anyone who claims to believe in democracy and political freedom.

ADC Alleges Political Motive Behind Attack

Speaking further, Abdullahi told Akahi News that the fire was not an isolated case, noting that ADC offices and members had faced similar violent attacks in Kaduna, Lagos, Kebbi, Kogi, and Edo States since the Opposition Coalition declared ADC its preferred platform in July.

He described the repeated attacks as part of a dangerous pattern of political intolerance, warning that such developments posed a serious threat to Nigeria’s democracy.

“The fire in Ekiti is further confirmation that the APC is afraid of the rising wave of the ADC,” Abdullahi stated in the release obtained by Akahi News.

Party Points Fingers at APC

The ADC Publicity Secretary accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the attacks due to fears over the ADC’s growing popularity among Nigerians who are, according to him, disillusioned with the failures of the current administration.

He criticised government authorities for their silence, arguing that any government that ignores attacks on opposition parties is indirectly encouraging political chaos.

Abdullahi told Akahi News that the Ekiti attack further exposed the ruling party’s desperation ahead of the upcoming election, saying, “Those who cannot win fairly at the ballot are now resorting to violence.”

ADC Insists Ceremony Will Go On

Despite the attack, the ADC has vowed not to be intimidated. Abdullahi confirmed to Akahi News that the Reconfiguration and Affirmation Ceremony in Ekiti would still hold as planned — even if it had to take place outdoors.

“No amount of violence will stop the ADC from moving forward. We will continue to stand for democracy, peace, and justice,” Abdullahi said.

Calls for Investigation and International Attention

The ADC also urged security agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. In addition, the party appealed to INEC, civil society groups, and international observers to closely monitor the situation in Ekiti State and across the country to ensure the safety of opposition voices.

Political analysts who spoke to Akahi News said the attack underscores the increasing hostility within Nigeria’s political landscape, as the 2026 general elections draw closer.

Akahi News will continue to follow this story as it develops and provide verified updates on the aftermath of the Ekiti incident.
