The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two men, Umar Usman, 24, and Auwal Mohammed, 22, for allegedly rustling ten cows in Maikwangi village, Ningi Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson Ahmed Wakil confirmed the arrests to journalists on Saturday, stating that intelligence received on August 14, 2025, indicated the presence of a suspected cattle rustling gang in Maikwangi village.
Detectives from the Ningi Divisional Police Headquarters, working alongside other security agencies and under the leadership of the Divisional Police Officer, promptly acted on the tip-off. They successfully apprehended the suspects in possession of ten cows believed to have been stolen.
Wakil revealed that Usman and Mohammed, both residents of Magana district in Sabo LGA, Kaduna State, confessed during interrogation to conspiring about a month ago to raid a Fulani settlement in Gwamnare bush, Maikwangi village, and stealing the recovered cattle.
He called on members of the public, particularly those in the Gwamnare bush community, to assist in identifying and returning the cattle to their rightful owners.
Wakil added that investigations were ongoing and that the suspects would be profiled and charged in court upon completion of the inquiry.
