Beer Parlour Operator Arrested in Ondo for Goat Theft Used in Pepper Soup Business
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Residents of Ipetu-Ijesa community in Osun State have expressed shock after operatives of the Amotekun Corps apprehended a 56-year-old beer parlour operator, Mr. Ayo Akinpelu, over allegations of stealing goats which he reportedly used to prepare pepper soup for unsuspecting customers.

Arrest After Residents’ Tip-Off
According to a statement issued by the Amotekun command spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, on Thursday in Osogbo, the suspect was caught following intelligence received from vigilant residents who became suspicious of his movements.
It was gathered that Akinpelu, who runs a beer parlour in Ondo town, was intercepted by members of the community after he was seen transporting a goat in his Lexus Jeep. On inspection, the animal was discovered tied and hidden in the vehicle.
Unable to give a convincing explanation for the goat in his possession, the suspect was immediately handed over to the Amotekun operatives who swiftly responded to the distress call from the locals.
Seven Years of Goat Theft Confession
During interrogation, Akinpelu reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that he had been stealing goats from surrounding communities for over seven years.
“I have been using the stolen goats to prepare pepper soup for my beer parlour customers. My usual tactic was to lure the goats with salt, making them calm before putting them in the car,” the suspect allegedly told investigators.
Further revelations indicate that the suspect frequently travelled to rural communities in Osun State to steal goats, which he then transported back to Ondo for his illicit business activities.
Amotekun Command Commends Vigilant Residents
The Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun, Isaac Omoyele, confirmed the arrest and lauded the swift action of residents in Ipetu-Ijesa for promptly reporting the case.
“Community vigilance remains a key factor in curbing criminal activities. This arrest was possible because residents acted quickly and informed security operatives. We encourage other communities to emulate this,” Omoyele stated.
The suspect is currently in custody and will be handed over to appropriate authorities for prosecution once investigations are concluded.
Rising Concern Over Petty Crimes in Rural Communities
This incident has once again highlighted concerns over rising cases of petty theft and livestock rustling in rural parts of Ondo and Osun states.
Security analysts believe that the economic downturn and unemployment have driven some individuals into desperate acts, while others have turned such crimes into organised activities targeting unsuspecting rural dwellers.
Residents of Ipetu-Ijesa and surrounding communities have now called for increased security patrols, especially at night, to prevent further incidents of livestock theft and other related crimes.
