CAC Issues Fresh Warning on Fake Companies, Lists Unregistered Firms to Protect Nigerians

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has issued a strong public warning, alerting Nigerians to the growing risk of fraud involving unregistered companies and business entities operating with fake names and registration numbers.

According to Punch, the commission raised the alarm in an official statement released on Tuesday and shared across its verified social media platforms, urging the public to exercise extreme caution when engaging with organisations whose details cannot be found in its database.

Akahi News gathered that this move is part of a broader effort to protect investors, entrepreneurs and the general public from falling victim to fraudulent actors who exploit unsuspecting Nigerians through the use of forged Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration numbers.

CAC Publishes List of Unregistered Organisations

In its notice, the commission named several companies and business entities that are not captured in its official records, despite operating with purported RC and BN numbers.

Further checks also revealed additional unregistered entities, including:

  • Johson Nats Limited (RC 198492)

  • Jiba Enterprise (BN 577523)

Other businesses named in the warning include Civil Engineering Solutions Nigeria Limited, Gabdoff Hotel Ltd, Amoka Group, BEEC Nigeria Limited and S. S. Adetunji, all of which the CAC said do not exist in its recognised database.

Akahi News learnt that these names were published to help the public avoid financial loss and legal complications that often follow dealings with unregistered or non-existent companies.

Commission Reaffirms Commitment to Transparency

The CAC explained that its decision to publicly list the entities is in line with its mandate under the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) to maintain an accurate and credible companies’ register for Nigeria.

“This publication is in line with our statutory responsibility to protect investors, businesses and the general public from fraudulent activities,” the statement read.

The commission further advised Nigerians to always conduct proper verification on the CAC official portal before entering into any agreement or transaction with a business entity in Nigeria.

Akahi News gathered that the commission is stepping up monitoring as cases of identity fraud, fake ventures and illegal business operations continue to rise in parts of the country, especially online.

Why This Warning Matters

In recent years, several Nigerians—both at home and in the diaspora—have lost significant sums to fake investment schemes, unverified cooperatives and dubious organisations claiming to be legally registered. The CAC’s latest warning therefore serves as a timely reminder for individuals and businesses to prioritise due diligence.

Analysts suggest that strict verification, coupled with increased digital awareness, could significantly reduce the number of fraud-related cases linked to fake companies.

Akahi News also advises business owners, jobseekers and investors to insist on independently confirming a company’s registration status rather than relying on certificates or documents provided by third parties.

A Call for Vigilance

As Nigeria’s business environment continues to expand, regulatory surveillance and public awareness remain critical. The CAC’s move is seen as a step towards strengthening trust, accountability and transparency in the nation’s corporate space.

Akahi News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
