Corps Member Warns SS2 Female Student Over ‘Handsome’ Comment

A serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Austeen Aulcena, has issued a stern warning to a Senior Secondary School (SS2) female student after she complimented him by saying he was “handsome.”
Incident Sparks Online Debate
The incident, which occurred on Monday, 29th September 2025, has stirred mixed reactions online, with many arguing about boundaries between corps members and students.
Akahi News gathered that the corps member, while appreciating the compliment, viewed it as a potential breach of teacher-student boundaries. He expressed concern that such remarks, if left unchecked, could lead to inappropriate familiarity between young students and adult corps members posted to schools.
Corps Member’s Statement
According to him, the NYSC uniform often commands respect and admiration from students, which could be misinterpreted if not properly managed. He warned that casual comments like this sometimes escalate into emotional attachments, creating opportunities for unethical relationships.
He said,
“While the student may have seen it as a harmless compliment, I considered it inappropriate. She is under 17, and we must maintain professional boundaries as role models in schools.”
Call for Professional Conduct
Aulcena urged fellow corps members to set positive examples and use their positions to guide and protect students rather than exploit their naivety.
