Corpus Christi Sunday: Rev. Fr. Vincent Ekeneme Urges Parishioners to Embrace Eucharistic Living
In a spiritually uplifting homily delivered during the Corpus Christi celebration at Holy Family Catholic Church, OAU Road 7, Ile-Ife, on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Vincent Ekeneme, highlighted three profound principles that all faithful must embrace in honour of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.
Addressing a congregation filled with reverence and reflection, Fr. Ekeneme emphasized the importance of the Eucharist not merely as a ritual but as a way of life. “First,” he said, “we must treasure and appreciate the Eucharist. It is the real presence of Christ among us and the greatest gift to the Church.”
Secondly, the priest called on all worshippers to understand the union and communion of the Eucharist, which reflects the perfect harmony within the Holy Trinity. “Just as the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit coexist in unity, we too are called to live in peace and love with one another through our communion with Christ,” he explained.
Thirdly, and most strikingly, Rev. Fr. Ekeneme urged parishioners to embrace the mystery of brokenness for the sake of growth. “Jesus broke Himself for humanity in the Eucharist. If we desire to grow, expand, and multiply in life, we must also allow ourselves to be broken in humility for others,” he stated. He drew a powerful parallel with the miracle of the feeding of the five thousand, noting that multiplication only became possible when the loaves and fish were broken and shared.
The priest’s message was met with deep contemplation by the congregation, as he reminded them that Corpus Christi is not just a celebration, but a call to live the Eucharistic life—one of love, unity, sacrifice, and service.
