Cross River Government, NDDC Commission ICT Centres, Hostels at College of Nursing Sciences, Obudu

The Cross River State Government, in partnership with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has commissioned state-of-the-art ICT centres, hostel accommodations, and other modern facilities at the College of Nursing Sciences, Obudu, in a bold step towards strengthening healthcare delivery and education in the state.

The landmark ceremony, attended by top government officials, community leaders, healthcare professionals, and students, marked what many described as a “turning point” in the state’s quest to modernise nursing education and enhance healthcare services.

Commissioner Commends Arch Clement Udie’s Contribution

Speaking on behalf of His Excellency, Apostle Senator Dr Bassey Edet Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Elder Dr Henry Ayuk, applauded Arch Clement Udie—a native of the community and staff of NDDC—for facilitating the construction of the ICT centres and hostel blocks.

Dr Ayuk noted that the initiative exemplified “a love for the motherland” and demonstrated the power of community unity in driving development.

“Governor Otu remains committed to supporting projects such as these and ensuring that every senatorial district benefits from quality healthcare services and modern facilities,” the Commissioner stated.

He further highlighted the state government’s ongoing efforts in constructing health centres, allocating funds, and providing resources to bolster healthcare delivery, stressing that these initiatives would transform health institutions across Cross River State.

New Facilities to Boost Nursing Education

The Commissioner, who also commissioned the newly completed Registry Department, Classroom Blocks, Bursary, and Conference Centre projects undertaken by the college management, praised the institution for what he described as “effective and transparent implementation of government resources.”

Mr Coco-Bassey Esu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, echoed these sentiments, thanking Governor Otu for his unwavering support for nursing education and training.

“Distinguished guests, esteemed members of the community, representatives of NDDC, and fellow healthcare professionals, this momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in our collective pursuit of excellence in healthcare delivery,” Mr Esu said, his voice ringing with optimism.

He added that the new ICT facilities and hostel accommodations would enhance the learning experience for nursing students, giving them access to state-of-the-art resources to excel in their chosen fields.

Community Leaders Laud Government’s Efforts

The Executive Chairman of Obudu Local Government, Hon (Amb.) Peter Akonge Undiandeye, commended the combined efforts of the government, the NDDC, and community stakeholders for attracting life-changing projects to the area.

“With sustained support from all sides, I can assure our people that the government will continue to provide the resources needed to make even bigger dreams a reality,” the chairman promised.

Meanwhile, the Provost of the College of Nursing Sciences, Obudu, Dr (Mrs) Victoria Undeshi, expressed profound gratitude to Arch Clement Udie, the Cross River State Government, and local leaders for facilitating the acquisition of 7.3 hectares of land—well above the five hectares required by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

“Our students will not only appreciate the new infrastructure but will also benefit immensely from the opportunities these facilities bring,” she said, beaming with satisfaction.

A New Dawn for Healthcare in Cross River

As the ribbon was cut and the projects formally declared open, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community elders, staff, and students cheered, expressing their delight over what they termed “a new dawn for healthcare education in Cross River State.”

Stakeholders agreed that the facilities would go a long way in improving the standard of nursing education and by extension, healthcare delivery in the state.

For many, the commissioning ceremony was more than just another event on the calendar; it was the start of a journey towards stronger healthcare systems, better-trained professionals, and healthier communities across Cross River State.
