The ongoing Cross River North water project championed by Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe has recorded another milestone as drilling operations have been successfully completed in Obanliku Local Government Area. Akahi News learnt that the development is part of the Senator’s wider rural development agenda aimed at providing sustainable access to potable water through solar-powered systems.

According to findings, drilling operations were concluded in four strategic communities identified as high-need areas:

  1. Bebuekayang – Bisu Ward
  2. Busi 4 – Busi Ward
  3. Bessenge II – Utanga
  4. Ablessang – Bishiri South

Akahi News gathered that these communities had long battled water scarcity, forcing residents to rely on unsafe sources such as streams and hand-dug wells. The Senator’s intervention through the solar-powered water scheme is expected to significantly reduce waterborne diseases while improving living conditions across the senatorial district.

Speaking on the progress of the project, Senator Jarigbe emphasised the need for contractors to deliver durable installations. He urged them to accelerate the final phase of the work, especially as the dry season approaches — a period notorious for acute water shortages in rural Cross River communities.

Beyond providing potable water, Akahi News learnt that the project is designed to ease the daily struggles of rural households, particularly women and children who often trek long distances in search of water. Community leaders in Obanliku have already hailed the drilling milestone as a “life-changing intervention” that will bring long-awaited relief to thousands of residents.

The next phase of the project will focus on completing installations, including solar pumps, storage tanks, and distribution points, before final commissioning. Once operational, the scheme will provide steady and affordable access to clean water, reinforcing Senator Jarigbe’s commitment to grassroots development in Cross River North.

By prioritising projects that directly address basic needs, Senator Jarigbe continues to set himself apart as a lawmaker focused on practical solutions rather than rhetoric. From healthcare to education and infrastructure, his efforts are shaping a more sustainable future for rural communities across the district.
