Lagos Skit Maker Brutally Murdered by Suspected Cultists in Ibeju-Lekki

The entertainment industry in Lagos has been thrown into mourning following the gruesome killing of a young skit maker and hairstylist, identified simply as Austin, by suspected cultists in the Lakowe community of Ibeju-Lekki.

Akahi News learnt that the shocking incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 14th August 2025, when the assailants stormed the victim’s residence, dragged him out, and hacked him to death. Disturbingly, his hand was also severed in the attack, leaving residents traumatised.
According to accounts from locals, a commotion was heard around the time of the incident, but many did not immediately know the cause. By morning, Austin’s lifeless body was discovered lying outside, with visible machete wounds. One resident, who spoke anonymously, said:
“There was some noise very early that morning, but nobody understood what was going on. Later, we discovered Austin’s body and saw that his hand had been cut off.”
Akahi News gathered that Austin, who was both a skit maker and hairstylist, was well-known in the area and had a close circle of entertainer friends. Strikingly, the deceased had posted a cryptic farewell message on his WhatsApp status a day before the tragedy, suggesting he might have sensed looming danger.
A video clip obtained by Akahi News showed his body on the ground as shocked residents looked on helplessly. The footage has since circulated widely on social media, sparking outrage and renewed concerns over rising cult violence in Lagos.
Efforts to get an official response from the Lagos State Police Command proved abortive, as calls and text messages to the Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, went unanswered as at the time of filing this report.
This latest killing adds to the growing list of cult-related violence in Lagos. Akahi News learnt that earlier in the week, another clash in Ebute Meta led to the killing of a young man identified as Kamoru, also known as “Keeper,” with several arrests made in connection to the crime.
The spate of killings has heightened anxiety among Lagos residents, particularly in areas like Ibeju-Lekki, where security presence is thin compared to the rapid pace of urbanisation. Many community members are now calling for urgent government intervention, increased police patrols, and stronger community security networks to curb the menace.
For the entertainment community, Austin’s death is not just another statistic. Friends and fans describe him as a talented and hardworking young man who was carving a niche for himself in both the beauty and comedy skit industries. His untimely demise, they say, is a painful reminder of the insecurity that threatens the lives of Nigeria’s youth.
As investigations continue, the killing of Austin has once again brought to the forefront the urgent need to tackle cultism and violent crime across Lagos State. Residents are demanding justice and more decisive action from security agencies to restore public confidence.
