Eight Suspects Detained Over Gruesome Mutilation of Teen in Ikire, Osun State
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News

The Osun State Police Command has arrested eight suspects in connection with the shocking mutilation of a 16-year-old boy in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area. The distressing incident, which has drawn widespread condemnation, occurred on July 26, according to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.
The Incident and Arrests
DSP Ojelabi revealed that three suspects, residing in Apomu, had been working on a farmland in the Arademi area of Ikire at around 4 pm on that day. After cutting the grass, two of the men allegedly lured the teenager into a remote bush, where they reportedly cut open his abdomen in a horrifying attempt to remove vital organs. The attackers then removed the boy’s scrotum before fleeing the scene following the victim’s alarm.
The police promptly responded upon being informed and rushed the injured boy to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. He was later transferred to the University College Hospital for specialised medical care.
Following an intensive investigation, the Osun State Police Command succeeded in arresting eight individuals believed to be linked to the brutal attack. Details about their exact roles in the crime are still under review as the probe continues.
Other Related Arrests in Osun
In addition to the Ikire mutilation case, DSP Ojelabi confirmed other arrests made in July, reflecting the police’s ongoing efforts to curb crime in the state. Among these were two suspected cult members allegedly operating within Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
Furthermore, a suspect was apprehended for robbing an individual of an iPhone 11 at Oke Baale in Osogbo. Police also intercepted another man at Sedona, Ede, who was found in possession of a cut-to-size firearm after his motorcycle was stopped for a routine check.
The police rounded off the list with the arrest of an individual accused of stealing a motorcycle at a mosque, adding to the command’s recent success in tackling criminal activities.
Next Steps and Police Assurance
DSP Ojelabi assured the public that all suspects arrested in connection with these offences would face appropriate legal action once investigations conclude. “The command remains committed to ensuring justice is served and public safety maintained across Osun State,” he stated.
The disturbing nature of the Ikire case has raised serious concerns among residents and human rights advocates, who are calling for swift justice and stronger measures to protect vulnerable youths from violent crime.
