Alumni Association Rallies Behind Governor Oyebanji
The Ekiti State University (EKSU) Alumni Association on Thursday formally presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to Governor Biodun Oyebanji in a show of solidarity for his re-election bid in the June 2026 governorship election.

The presentation, which took place at the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti, came just four days after the Alumni Association, under the aegis of EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO, had purchased the forms at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Akahi News learnt that the gesture was inspired by what the association described as Oyebanji’s remarkable leadership and exceptional performance across key sectors in the state, which they want him to replicate in a second term.

Senate Leader Bamidele Hails Oyebanji as a Pacesetter
While presenting the forms, the Life Patron of the Association and Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, described Oyebanji as a pacesetter whose leadership style has earned him wide respect.
According to Bamidele, the Governor’s track record in infrastructure, education, agriculture, and human capital development has set him apart as a visionary leader worthy of continued support.

He explained that these outstanding achievements were the reason the Alumni deemed it fit to purchase the nomination forms on Oyebanji’s behalf. The Senate Leader also urged members of the association to become vibrant campaigners, noting that detractors have continued to use social media to launch unjustified attacks on the administration.
Bamidele further disclosed that the Governor, working with National Assembly members, had engaged the Presidency and other relevant authorities on critical federal roads in the state, which recently led to the award of two major road projects.
Alumni Leaders Launch Solidarity Group for BAO
The Global President of EKSU Alumni Association, Mr. Seyi Idowu, unveiled the EKSU Alumni Solidarity Group for BAO. He explained that the group’s core objective is to launch a grassroots and social media campaign to mobilise support for Oyebanji’s re-election.

Idowu emphasised that the Alumni’s decision to purchase the nomination forms was a show of confidence in Oyebanji’s leadership, stressing that his impressive governance record and commitment to people’s welfare make him the right choice to continue steering Ekiti State.
In the same vein, the Director General of the solidarity group, Engr. Dipo Bamisaye, listed some of the Governor’s notable achievements within three years, including the creation of a peaceful political and business atmosphere, infrastructural expansion, increment of subvention to tertiary institutions, and payment of gratuities to retirees.
Governor Oyebanji Reacts
In his response, Governor Oyebanji expressed profound gratitude to the Alumni Association for the honour, describing the gesture as an uncommon show of love and confidence.
He assured members that his administration would continue to roll out impactful policies that promote inclusive governance, economic growth, and educational advancement.
The Governor also highlighted interventions his administration has made in EKSU, including the strategic constitution of the governing council and increased subvention to the university, with more plans underway to position the institution as a world-class university.
Describing the event as emotional, Oyebanji acknowledged political attacks from opposition elements but maintained that his administration’s performance was enough to stand tall against critics.
He appealed to APC members and supporters to maintain peace and avoid violent confrontations as campaigns intensify. According to him:
“I am aware that politics is on; they are going to annoy you, lie about you, do a lot of things, don’t fight with anybody. We need peace in this state. They cannot take us out on our performance.”
Dignitaries in Attendance
The presentation event witnessed the presence of top government officials and political leaders, including Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, members of the National Assembly, and state legislators.
