The Senate of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, has approved the promotion of 70 teaching staff to the rank of professor, in a significant move to recognize and reward academic excellence. Additionally, the university is set to launch two new programmes: the Bachelor of Dental Surgery and the Doctor of Pharmacy.
Vice Chancellor Professor Edward Olanipekun made the announcement during a press briefing in Ado Ekiti, where he also addressed the postponement of the institution’s 2023/2024 First Semester examination by one week. This development marks a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to enhance its academic offerings and recognize the contributions of its teaching staff.

Opeyemi Falegan, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has called on Governor Biodun Oyebanji to provide a detailed account of the federal allocations received by the state over the past year. Falegan’s request comes amidst concerns about the high level of hardship faced by citizens, which he believes is inconsistent with the increased revenue allocations from the Federation Account.
However, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the Information Commissioner, countered Falegan’s claims, stating that the allocations are being utilized prudently and effectively. Olatunbosun highlighted that the Oyebanji administration’s transparent management of resources has earned recognition and accolades from esteemed global organizations, including Transparency International.
Federal University Oye-Ekiti Issues Safety Directive for Female Staff and Students
The Federal University Oye-Ekiti has issued an urgent advisory directing all female staff and students on the Ikole campus to remain indoors from August 7th to 9th, 2024. This precautionary measure is in response to the Oro festival scheduled to take place in the Ikole-Ekiti community during the same period.
