How the Tragedy Happened

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the victim was first declared missing on July 26, 2025. Investigations later revealed that the prime suspect, Obodoagu Ikediekpere Wisdom, conspired with Michael to demand a ransom of ₦1 million from the child’s father in a bid to disguise his involvement.

When the ransom went unpaid, Akahi News learnt that the prime suspect murdered the child and buried him in a bush close to their residence in Okinitor, Amankwo Ngwo, Udi LGA.

Suspects Confessed and Led Police to the Scene

The suspects later confessed during interrogation and guided police operatives to the crime scene, where the victim’s remains were exhumed in the presence of medical personnel. A doctor at the scene certified the child dead.

SP Ndukwe said:

“The prime suspect used his accomplice to demand ₦1,000,000 ransom from the victim’s father, in an attempt to disguise his identity. When the ransom went unmet, he murdered the child and buried him in a bush near their residence.”

Police Commissioner’s Assurance

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has condoled with the grieving family, assuring them that the suspects will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

The incident has thrown the community into mourning, with residents expressing shock and outrage over the heinous act. It has also reignited calls for stiffer penalties against perpetrators of child-related crimes.
