Federal Government Approves ₦1 Trillion Metropolitan Rail Project for Kano, Boosting Urban Mobility and Economic Growth
The Federal Government has approved the construction of a ₦1 trillion Metropolitan Rail Service in Kano State, a transformative infrastructure project designed to modernise urban transportation, ease persistent traffic congestion, and stimulate economic growth across the state’s rapidly expanding metropolitan area.

Governor Yusuf Announces Landmark Approval
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf disclosed the approval while addressing members of the Kano State contingent that participated in the 2025 National Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Borno State. According to the governor, the project represents a major federal commitment to sustainable urban development and economic revitalisation in Kano.
He explained that his administration’s decision to realign politically with the Federal Government, led by the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a calculated move aimed at attracting critical development projects capable of delivering long-term benefits to the state.

Modern Mass Transit to Drive Mobility and Investment
The proposed Metropolitan Rail Service will deliver a modern, efficient, and affordable mass transit system connecting key districts across Kano’s metropolitan axis. Once completed, the rail network is expected to significantly reduce road congestion, shorten travel time, and lower transportation costs for residents and businesses.
Beyond mobility, the project is projected to facilitate trade, attract private investment, create employment opportunities, and enhance the overall quality of life within the city.
