A Distinguished Career of Service and Leadership
CSP Umiah Matilda Ngbanoyen was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on April 19, 2010, and served in several strategic and sensitive positions over her 15-year career.
She held notable roles including:
- Secretary to the then Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu.
- Crime Officer, Dolphin Estate, Ikoyi.
- General Investigation and Fingerprint Expert at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos.
- Officer-in-Charge, Public Complaints Bureau.
- Public Information Officer, African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
- Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos Command (appointed December 12, 2020).
Her remarkable leadership trajectory saw her rise through the ranks — she was decorated Superintendent of Police (SP) in February 2021, later served as DPO in Ilupeju and Iponri, and was redeployed to Festac Division in 2025 as its first-ever female DPO.

In January 2025, she earned her promotion to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), a testament to her professional excellence and commitment to duty.
Lagos Police, Colleagues, and Family Mourn Her Passing
The Lagos Command has begun consultations with the late officer’s family to ensure she receives a befitting burial, in line with her contributions to the Force.
In its tribute, the Command described her as “a quintessential officer who exemplified leadership, diligence, and empathy in policing.”
She is survived by her husband and children.
Akahi News gathered that the late CSP Ngbanoyen attended several professional courses within and outside Nigeria, including the Advanced Detective Course (ADC) and Human Rights Protection Course, among others.
Her passing has been described by many in the Force as “a painful loss of one of Lagos Command’s brightest officers.”
May her soul rest in peace.
