This was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, during his official visit to monitor the pilot CBT SSCE organised by the National Examinations Council (NECO) at Sascon International School, Maitama, Abuja, on Tuesday.

Dr Alausa emphasised the government’s commitment to integrating digital technology into the education sector, noting that the deployment of CBT for SSCE will enhance efficiency, reduce malpractice, and align Nigeria’s examination process with global best practices.

“We are fully committed to transitioning the school-based SSCE to a fully computer-based format by the year 2026. This will involve the complete use of existing private and public CBT centres across the country,” he said.

The Minister commended NECO for pioneering the pilot exercise and praised the participating school for its cooperation in embracing the innovation. He stated that the pilot marks a critical step in the broader agenda of digital transformation within Nigeria’s secondary education system.

NECO’s pilot CBT SSCE is being conducted as part of ongoing efforts to test the feasibility, infrastructure readiness, and student adaptability ahead of the 2026 full implementation.

Dr Alausa reaffirmed the Ministry’s support for all stakeholders involved in the digital shift and called for collaborative efforts from school administrators, private sector partners, and state governments to ensure seamless execution of the initiative nationwide.
