Kwankwaso Welcomes Thousands of APC Defectors to NNPP in Kano
Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced the defection of thousands of All Progressives Congress (APC) members to the NNPP in Kano State.

The prominent political figure made this known on Friday via a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. According to him, the wave of defections took place on Thursday and involved a large number of residents from across Kano State who have now pledged allegiance to the NNPP.
“Yesterday was a momentous occasion, as I received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP),” Kwankwaso shared.
The mass defection is seen as a strategic boost to the NNPP’s growing influence in Kano, a state long considered a political stronghold for the Kwankwasiyya Movement. Political observers believe the development may significantly reshape the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and a two-time minister, has remained a central figure in Northern politics. His grassroots mobilisation through the Kwankwasiyya Movement continues to draw significant support, especially among youths and disenfranchised political actors.
