A former member representing Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency, Danjuma Usman Shiddi, has formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing concerns over Nigeria’s evolving political landscape and its potential impact on his future and constituents.

In a resignation letter dated March 18, 2026, Shiddi explained that his decision followed “further personal reflection,” despite initially joining the party with optimism about its vision and political direction.
Akahi News gathered that the development adds to the growing wave of political realignments ahead of future electoral contests across the country.
“Gathering Clouds” and a Strategic Exit
Shiddi noted that what he described as the “gathering clouds of uncertainty” within the current political climate could jeopardise both his long-term ambitions and the interests of the people he represents in Taraba State.
According to him, his continued alignment with the ADC was no longer strategically viable.
“It truly hurts to leave,” he stated, reflecting on his time within the party and the relationships he built with fellow members.
He further described members of the party as “exceptional leaders” and expressed gratitude for the support he received during his stay.
Akahi News learnt that copies of the resignation letter were sent to key stakeholders, including the ADC chairman in Puje Ward, the party’s leadership in Wukari Local Government Area, the state chairman in Taraba, and the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state.
Commitment to Constituents Remains Unchanged
Despite his departure from the party, Shiddi reaffirmed his commitment to public service and to the people of Taraba State.
He stated that his decision was guided by the need to seek “a path that offers the clarity required” to effectively represent his constituents.
This assertion underscores a recurring theme in Nigerian politics—where loyalty to political parties often competes with perceived obligations to the electorate.
But it also raises a fundamental question: is political loyalty best measured by consistency within a party, or by the ability to adapt in pursuit of effective representation?
A Reflection of Broader Political Realignments
Shiddi’s resignation appears to reflect a broader trend of shifting alliances within Nigeria’s political space, particularly as politicians position themselves ahead of future elections.
Observers note that such movements are often driven by calculations about viability, influence, and the evolving dynamics within parties.
Akahi News gathered that while party defections are not new in Nigeria, each instance adds another layer to the complex narrative of political strategy and governance.
Yet, beneath the surface lies a deeper philosophical concern.
Do frequent political shifts strengthen democracy by allowing flexibility and responsiveness, or do they weaken it by eroding ideological consistency and voter trust?
And more importantly, how should constituents interpret such moves—are they acts of courage, pragmatism, or convenience?
As Shiddi exits the ADC, attention now turns to his next political move and what it may signal for Taraba State’s political configuration.
His departure may also prompt reflections within the party about internal cohesion and long-term strategy.
For now, the former lawmaker has chosen a path he believes offers clarity—but whether that clarity translates into political advantage or improved representation remains to be seen.
In Nigeria’s dynamic political environment, one truth remains constant: change is inevitable, but its consequences are often unpredictable.
