‘God Will Punish You’ — VDM Slams Ekiti Government, Lawmakers Over Alleged N68m Healthcare Allocation

Popular social commentator, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has ignited fresh controversy after launching a blistering attack on the Ekiti State Government and members of the State House of Assembly over what he described as a “shocking” allocation to healthcare in the state’s proposed 2026 budget.

In a video currently trending across social media platforms, VDM accused Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration and state lawmakers of prioritising personal comfort and political privileges over the health and survival of ordinary citizens.

According to figures cited by the activist, Ekiti State’s proposed 2026 budget stands at about ₦415.5 billion. However, he alleged that only ₦68 million was allocated to primary healthcare services across the entire state.

Akahi News gathered that VDM questioned how such an amount could adequately cater for a state with millions of residents, particularly vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children, and the elderly.

Referencing population figures, the social critic noted that even with conservative estimates beyond the 2006 census, the allocation remained grossly insufficient for effective healthcare delivery.

Claims of Skewed Priorities

VDM further alleged that just ₦1.6 million was budgeted for drugs, laboratory services, and medical supplies, while lawmakers reportedly earmarked significantly higher sums for personal and administrative expenses.

He listed several controversial budgetary items, including:

  • ₦618 million for honoraria and sitting allowances
  • ₦150 million for maintenance of office furniture
  • ₦24 million for refreshments and meals
  • Over ₦100 million for the purchase of office equipment

In his words, allocating more funds to “food, furniture and sitting allowances than hospitals” amounted to what he described as “wicked governance.”

Questions Over Transparency and Duplications

The commentator also raised concerns over what he termed duplicated and unclear budget entries, questioning why large sums were proposed for new equipment while additional funds were also allocated for maintaining existing ones.

According to him, such spending patterns raise serious questions about transparency, fiscal discipline, and the government’s true priorities.

Impact on Ordinary Citizens

VDM lamented that while political office holders and their families often seek medical care abroad or in well-equipped private hospitals, rural dwellers and low-income earners are left to depend on underfunded and poorly equipped primary healthcare centres.

He warned that leaders who neglect the health sector would ultimately be held accountable, declaring repeatedly in the video that “God will punish” those responsible for what he sees as misplaced priorities.

As of the time of filing this report, Ekiti State Government officials have not issued an official response to the allegations. Akahi News will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more details emerge.
