Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State announced on Thursday that students in senior secondary public schools will now receive free education. The announcement was made during a meeting with principals and head teachers of public primary and secondary schools in Awka.

This follows Soludo’s earlier declaration on September 21, 2023, introducing free and compulsory education from nursery to junior secondary in public schools under his “Solution Free Education” policy. He further explained that while senior secondary students would initially pay a nominal tuition fee of N5,000, the new policy will extend free education to them starting next week.
Soludo emphasized that this initiative aims to expand access to education and foster the development of students’ personalities, talents, and mental and physical abilities. Despite financial constraints, he assured that his administration remains committed to fulfilling its mandate.

Reiterating his focus on human capital development, Soludo also announced that the state would begin implementing a new N70,000 minimum wage for workers in October. “We are dedicated to investing in our people, and both the minimum wage and free education initiative reflect our commitment,” he said, adding that these policies will significantly improve the lives of workers and students in Anambra, raising their standard of living and access to quality education.
