Edo State governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Hon. Denis Idahosa, received their certificates of return on Thursday, September 26, from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The certificates were presented by Prof. Rhoda Gumus, the national commissioner for Edo State, representing INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

The governor-elect and his deputy were accompanied by prominent figures, including APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, APC National Secretary Senator Bashiru Ajibola, Minister for Niger Delta Affairs Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, Edo State Deputy Governor Phillip Shuaibu, Senator Matthew Uroghide, and others.

After receiving his certificate of return, Senator Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the people of Edo State, dedicating his victory to them. He emphasized that the people have given him a mandate, and he is committed to delivering on it.

Dr. Ganduje praised the people of Edo for returning the APC to power, stating that the governor-elect has a comprehensive blueprint to develop the state. “Edo was an APC state, but the former governor, like a nomadic politician, switched parties. We fought hard and reclaimed the state for the APC. I am confident that our governor-elect, an experienced politician and distinguished senator, will bring positive changes,” Ganduje said.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole also expressed his satisfaction with the election outcome, highlighting that the people now have a governor who respects traditional institutions and prioritizes their needs. He criticized the previous administration for its actions, including demolishing a hospital to build a museum, and imprisoning pregnant women over minor fines.

Oshiomhole remarked, “It’s a new dawn for Edo. The people have spoken and chosen a leader who understands their needs, values education, and respects our culture. We now have a governor who will build schools, repair roads, and restore the dignity of our state. The combined forces of Edo North, Central, and South have reclaimed the state from those who disrespected it.”

In his remarks, Ganduje added, “Reclaiming Edo wasn’t easy, but it was worth every effort. The governor-elect is ready to implement significant changes that will positively transform the state.”
