High Chief Edem Duke Clarifies Cultural Center Activities as Calabar Residents Flock to Site

Calabar has recently witnessed a surge of public interest following the arrival of a colony of elephants at the Cultural Center, drawing hundreds of young residents to the site. High Chief Edem Duke has stepped forward to provide clarity, emphasising that the presence of the elephants is only a part of a much larger, ongoing project.

Speaking to the public, Duke reassured that while the elephants have generated significant excitement, the Cultural Center is still under construction and is not yet officially open. “No, the fact that the elephants have come does not mean that the Cultural Center is open. It’s a work in progress. We’d like members of the public to note that it is not open,” he stated, urging patience as work continues.

High Chief Duke also highlighted that the Cultural Center is designed as a true community hub, intended for socialisation, leisure, tourism, and a variety of cultural activities and events. “It is not for Carnival. It just happens to be located near the epicenter of the Carnival,” he explained, noting the broader vision for the facility as a vibrant destination for both locals and visitors.

During the occasion of Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary, Duke praised Governor Bassey Edet Otu for his efforts in bringing the project to fruition. He appealed for continued public support, prayers, and patience, emphasising that the Cultural Center will enhance Cross River State’s profile as a hub for business, leisure, agriculture, and tourism.

“The enthusiasm is overwhelming, but patience is required. Ultimately, we all will get to enjoy the facility that the government is putting in place at the Cultural Center,” Duke added, reinforcing the message that the site will soon become a landmark destination for the state.
