YALA, CROSS RIVER STATE – Cross River State lawmaker, Hon. Brian Odey, representing Yala 1 State Constituency, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the State Commissioner for Education, Associate Professor Stephen Adi Odey, following his recent elevation to the prestigious rank of Professor of Sociology by the University of Calabar, Calabar.

The announcement of Senator Stephen Odey’s promotion was made today by the Governing Council and Senate of the institution, marking a significant milestone in his academic and public service career. The new title recognises his exceptional scholarship, leadership, and contributions to the field of Industrial Sociology.

Hon. Brian Odey, who currently chairs the Cross River State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, described the achievement as “a well-deserved honour that reflects unwavering dedication, tireless hard work, and profound expertise in his field.” He lauded Professor Odey’s decades-long commitment to both academia and public service, noting that his promotion stands as a testament to his passion for research, teaching, and societal development.

Hon. Brian further prayed for Professor Odey’s long life, good health, and prosperity, urging him to use his newly attained academic status to further serve the society, the academic community, Nigeria, and humanity at large.

Before his foray into politics, Professor Odey was a distinguished academic, serving as a dedicated teacher and mentor at the University of Calabar. His area of specialisation, Industrial Sociology, has seen him produce significant research that has shaped discourse in his field. Over the years, he has contributed to the graduation of numerous students, many of whom now hold influential positions in different sectors.

Even while holding political offices, Professor Odey has remained actively engaged in academia, participating in both local and international conferences, symposia, workshops, and seminars, where he has presented scholarly papers. His prolific academic output includes over thirty published papers, contributions to book chapters, and numerous technical reports.
