Igede Elite Forum Town Hall Meeting Records Major Resolutions on Peace, Unity, and Growth
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The 2025 edition of the Igede Elite Forum Town Hall Meeting has been described as a landmark gathering after producing far-reaching resolutions on peace, unity, cultural revival, political participation, and community development.

Held on 5th September 2025 under the theme “Peace, Unity and Growth”, the meeting lasted three hours and thirty minutes and brought together 82 participants from four key communities — Ibilla, Eminyi, Anyadaha, and Operikwu — all within the Igede Edii axis.
Key Issues Discussed and Resolutions Reached
The town hall meeting, according to its communiqué signed by Engr. M.O. Ejale, Committee Secretary, addressed pressing challenges affecting the Igede Edii communities and agreed on actionable solutions across social, cultural, and political fronts.
1. Unity and Peace
The meeting expressed concern over the rise of cultism and other social vices among youths in the communities, describing them as a major threat to peace and stability. It was resolved that security agencies in each community must take decisive steps to curb such practices.
On the issue of culture and norms, attendees agreed on the urgent need to revive traditional Igede Edii cultural practices, lamenting the decline of communal values due to over-reliance on modern religious practices that often divide rather than unite the people.

It was further resolved that elders must take responsibility for teaching younger generations the true history of the Igede Edii Nation, thereby preserving the community’s identity and heritage.
2. Natural Growth and Development
In a major development, one of the prominent sons of Igede Edii who recently retired as Deputy Director at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources revealed plans for a Dam construction project in Igede Edii as his retirement legacy.
He reportedly held discussions with the Minister of Water Resources and promised to facilitate the project once an official letter of introduction is submitted, with copies to the National Assembly representatives from the area.
3. Political Growth and Participation
The meeting also addressed political representation and zoning arrangements within Yala Local Government Area. Participants unanimously agreed on a new zoning structure:
- Zone A and Zone B would now group Okpodon and Ezekwe communities together as one zone, while all Igede Edii communities would form the second zone.
To achieve this, the forum urged all indigenes to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and increase electoral participation, as voting strength remains a key determinant in zoning decisions.
It was further resolved that Igede Edii must support all its sons and daughters contesting political offices, regardless of political party affiliations, to ensure wider representation in governance.
Additionally, arrangements would be made to provide PVC registration centres across the communities for eligible voters yet to register.
4. 2027 House of Assembly Elections
Although not exhaustively discussed, the meeting noted that Igede Edii’s turn to produce the representative for Yala Constituency II in the Cross River State House of Assembly would come in 2027. This matter will be deliberated in detail during the next town hall session.
Next Meeting Date
The meeting, which was described as peaceful and highly productive, was adjourned to 18th October 2025 for follow-up discussions on the resolutions and the 2027 political agenda.
Community members praised the Igede Elite Forum for sustaining dialogue among the communities, noting that the collective decisions reached would foster peace, unity, and sustainable development across Igede Edii.
