IPOB Disbands ‘Emma Powerful’ Pseudonym, Orders All Press Releases on Official Letterhead
The Directorate of State (DOS) of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has officially disbanded the use of the pseudonym “Emma Powerful,” directing that all future press releases from the organisation be issued solely on its official letterheaded paper.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Mazi Chukwukadibia Edoziem, Head of the DOS, who explained that the pseudonym — previously used operationally by the IPOB Publicity Secretary — had been abused and compromised, posing serious risks to the movement.

Akahi News gathered that the statement was issued as part of IPOB’s efforts to align its operations with globally recognised institutional standards and to safeguard the integrity of the Biafran self-determination movement.
Pseudonym ‘Emma Powerful’ Misused, Says IPOB
The DOS statement outlined that “Emma Powerful” was originally an operational pseudonym meant to facilitate press communication for IPOB. However, its continued use had become a source of risk and vulnerability.
“The pseudonym has been abused, misused, and compromised. Its continued use presents clear and present dangers to IPOB as a movement and to the Biafran self-determination struggle,” the statement read.
Akahi News learnt that IPOB alleged certain individuals and groups had covertly exploited the pseudonym to disrupt peace and security in Biafraland, affecting both residents and visitors.
New Guidelines for IPOB Communications
In response, the Directorate of State resolved that all press statements representing IPOB’s official positions must henceforth:
- Be issued exclusively on IPOB’s official letterheaded paper.
- No longer use the pseudonym “Emma Powerful” in any communication.
The DOS emphasised that any statement released under the name “Emma Powerful” from this point forward does not represent the position of IPOB leadership or the Directorate of State.
Clarification on Monday Sit-At-Home Orders
The statement further clarified that IPOB had not authorised any individual or group to impose a lockdown or sit-at-home order across Biafraland on Monday, 2 February 2026.
“Any press statement under the pseudonym ‘Emma Powerful’ regarding such directives does not emanate from IPOB leadership,” the DOS asserted.
Akahi News gathered that this clarification comes amid heightened attention to security and compliance across the region, as the IPOB leadership seeks to maintain organisational discipline and prevent misinformation.
The decision underscores IPOB’s commitment to institutionalising its communications and ensuring that all official pronouncements are properly verified, with accountability to its leadership and supporters worldwide.
Observers note that the move could strengthen the credibility of IPOB’s official channels and reduce the potential for misuse of its brand by unauthorised actors.
