Institution Launches Investigation After Students Denied Entry
Kaduna Polytechnic has commenced an investigation following a viral video showing some female students allegedly denied entry into lecture halls over claims of “indecent dressing.”

The video, which circulated widely on social media, showed students complaining that they were prevented from attending lectures at the institution’s College of Business and Management Studies (CBMS).
In response to the controversy, the management of Kaduna Polytechnic issued a statement acknowledging the incident and confirming that a probe had been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the enforcement of the school’s dress code policy.
Akahi News gathered that the management also expressed concern that the clothing worn by the affected students in the video appeared “moderate and appropriate,” raising questions about whether the enforcement was carried out properly.
Management Says Enforcement May Have Been Excessive
The statement was signed by the institution’s Deputy Registrar for Information and Protocol, Godwin Ayegba.
According to him, the students seen in the video should not have been barred from attending lectures based on the attire they were wearing.
“The Management of Kaduna Polytechnic has taken note of the viral video circulating on social media on Thursday, 12 March 2026, depicting an incident where some students at the Polytechnic’s College of Business and Management Studies were prevented from attending their lectures by members of the Polytechnic’s Dress Code Committee,” the statement said.
He explained that while the institution maintains a dress code policy aimed at promoting decency and professionalism, enforcement must be carried out within the limits of the approved guidelines.
Ayegba added that the enforcement should not be implemented in an extreme or arbitrary manner.
Akahi News learnt that the institution has therefore begun a formal review of the incident to identify any lapses in the application of the policy.
Students Raise Concerns in Viral Video
In the viral footage, one of the affected students, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, expressed frustration over what she described as unfair treatment.
According to her, the students had already been cleared by security personnel at the main campus gate before they were later stopped by another official who insisted that their dressing was inappropriate.
“This video is not going to sit well with a lot of people, but I’m going to make it nonetheless because I don’t understand,” the student said in the video.
She also appealed to the school authorities to look into the actions of the officials responsible for enforcing the dress code.
Observers say the video has sparked widespread debate online about dress regulations in Nigerian tertiary institutions and how such policies should be applied.
Balancing Discipline and Students’ Rights
Kaduna Polytechnic maintained that its dress code policy exists to create a disciplined and professional academic environment.
However, the management stressed that the enforcement of such rules must not prevent students from accessing their education unnecessarily.
The institution said it would take appropriate measures once the investigation is concluded to ensure that similar incidents do not occur again.
It also advised students to comply with the established dress code guidelines while using official complaint channels to report concerns rather than relying solely on social media.
Wider Debate on Campus Dress Codes
Across Nigerian universities and polytechnics, dress codes are commonly implemented to maintain what administrators describe as modesty, discipline, and professionalism on campus.
Yet controversies occasionally arise when students feel that enforcement is inconsistent or overly strict.
Education observers say such incidents often highlight the delicate balance institutions must maintain between upholding institutional standards and protecting students’ rights and access to learning.
For many stakeholders, the ongoing investigation by Kaduna Polytechnic may provide an opportunity to clarify enforcement procedures and ensure that institutional policies are applied fairly and transparently.
