Pope Leo XIV Urges Israel to End ‘Terror, Destruction and Death’ in Gaza
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Pope Leo XIV has appealed to Israel to halt what he described as the ongoing “terror, destruction and death” in Gaza.
Speaking during his weekly address, the Pontiff expressed deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in the region and threw his weight behind church leaders in Jerusalem who recently condemned Israel’s order for residents to evacuate Gaza City.

According to him, the directive poses a grave threat to the lives of vulnerable civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, who may not have the means or safety to leave the city.
“The voices of the church leaders in Jerusalem are clear, and I echo them — this evacuation order will only place innocent lives in greater danger,” Pope Leo stated.
He called for renewed commitment to dialogue, peace, and respect for human dignity, insisting that violence and forced displacement will not provide lasting solutions to the crisis.
Akahi News gathered that his appeal comes amid mounting international pressure for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian access in Gaza.
