Kidnappers Demand N600 Million Ransom for Abducted Katsina Family

Gunmen who abducted a couple and their daughter in Katsina State have demanded a ransom of N600 million for their release.

Akahi News gathered that the victims, identified as 33-year-old Anas Ahmadu, his wife, Halimat, and their young daughter, Jidda, were whisked away from their residence in Filin Canada Quarters, Sabuwar Unguwa area of Katsina metropolis, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
Vigilante Member Killed in Rescue Attempt
During the abduction, a vigilante member, Abdullahi Muhammad, 25, was reportedly shot dead after bravely attempting to rescue the victims from their captors. Eyewitnesses said the attackers exchanged fire before fleeing the scene, escaping before the arrival of security operatives.
Rising Security Concerns
This latest incident has heightened fears in Katsina, a state already battling incessant cases of banditry, kidnappings, and attacks on communities. Residents have called on security agencies to intensify efforts to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the victims.
As of press time, security authorities were yet to release an official statement on the matter, while the family of the victims faces the grim reality of the huge ransom demand.
