Maduro Accuses US of ‘Fabricating a New War’ as America Deploys Massive Warship to the Caribbean

Tensions have deepened between Washington and Caracas as Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro accused the United States of “fabricating a new war” following the deployment of the world’s largest warship, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the Caribbean, Akahi News reports.

Massive US Military Presence Sparks Global Concern

The deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford, which can carry up to 90 aircraft, represents a significant escalation of American firepower in the region. According to the Pentagon, the move is part of an expanded mission by the US Southern Command to combat narcotics trafficking and dismantle transnational criminal organisations.

In a Friday statement, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said the additional forces “will enhance and augment existing capabilities to disrupt narcotics trafficking.” However, Akahi News gathered that the United States has already conducted at least ten air strikes on boats in the area, which critics have described as “illegal military operations.”

Maduro: “They Are Fabricating a War”

Reacting to the deployment, President Maduro accused Washington of plotting aggression under the guise of anti-drug operations. “They promised they would never again get involved in a war, and they are fabricating a war,” he said during a televised address on Venezuelan state media.

Maduro dismissed US President Donald Trump’s long-standing claims that he leads a drug-trafficking organisation, calling the allegations baseless and politically motivated. He warned that the military build-up could be a prelude to an attempt to remove him from power — a fear shared by many Venezuelans amid the growing US military presence.

Diplomatic Rift Over Contested 2024 Election

The United States does not recognise Nicolás Maduro as Venezuela’s legitimate president, having rejected the country’s 2024 election as “neither free nor fair.” Much of the international community and the Venezuelan opposition echoed this stance, further isolating Maduro’s government.

Despite these accusations, analysts told Akahi News that Venezuela’s actual role in the regional drug trade remains relatively minor compared to other Latin American nations. The latest developments have therefore intensified speculation that Washington’s motives may extend beyond narcotics enforcement.

Trump Signals Possible ‘Land Action’ in Venezuela

In a statement earlier this week, President Trump hinted at possible “land action” in Venezuela. “We are certainly looking at land now, because we’ve got the sea very well under control,” he said, suggesting the potential for ground-based operations — a remark that has triggered alarm among international observers.

The deployment of the Gerald R. Ford marks a new phase of geopolitical tension in the Americas, as the Maduro government braces for what it describes as an “imperialist provocation.”
