Akahi News gathered that the visit, coming shortly after her appointment, was more than symbolic—it reflected a deliberate step toward repositioning the civil service for improved performance and accountability.

A Strategic Beginning, Not Just Ceremony

Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Musa explained that her mission was to formally notify the Deputy Governor of her assumption of office while also seeking his guidance and support in achieving her vision for the state’s civil service.

She expressed gratitude to the state government for the confidence reposed in her and pledged to leverage her administrative experience to strengthen discipline, boost staff morale, and entrench professionalism across the service.

According to her, a motivated and efficient workforce remains the backbone of effective governance.

Akahi News learnt that her early engagement strategy signals an understanding that reform in the public sector requires not just policy direction but collaboration at the highest levels.

But this raises a deeper question: can institutional change truly succeed without first transforming the mindset of those within the system?

Deputy Governor Backs Reform Agenda

Responding, Deputy Governor Joel Salifu described Mrs. Musa’s appointment as both “timely and well-deserved,” noting that it comes with significant responsibility in advancing the administration’s development goals.

He reaffirmed the government’s full support and encouraged her to build strong partnerships with stakeholders across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to enhance service delivery.

Salifu emphasised that integrity, dedication, and accountability remain indispensable values for a functional public service.

“The effectiveness of government policies largely depends on the strength and responsiveness of the civil service,” he stated.

Akahi News gathered that his remarks align with broader efforts by the state government to revitalise governance structures through improved administrative efficiency.

This invites reflection: is governance ultimately about policies, or about the people entrusted to implement them?

Leadership Style Reflects Engagement and Motivation

In a moment that highlighted her leadership approach, Mrs. Musa also addressed staff of the Deputy Governor’s office, commending their turnout despite the unscheduled nature of her visit.

She encouraged them to sustain their dedication, noting that commitment to duty not only enhances personal growth but also contributes to the overall progress of the state.

Her interaction with staff underscored the importance of morale and recognition in driving productivity within the public sector.

Akahi News learnt that such gestures are increasingly being viewed as essential tools for rebuilding confidence within civil service systems often challenged by low motivation.

Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

Mrs. Musa also praised Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for prioritising the welfare of civil servants, assuring workers that the administration remains committed to improving working conditions and welfare packages.

This assurance comes amid growing expectations among public servants for better remuneration, career development opportunities, and a more supportive work environment.

But beyond promises, another question emerges: can improved welfare alone guarantee efficiency, or must it be matched with accountability and performance standards?

A New Tone for the Civil Service

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Deputy Governor’s office, Malam Haruna Sanni, described the visit as a strong and promising start to Mrs. Musa’s tenure.

He noted that it sets a tone of collaboration, accountability, and renewed hope for a more vibrant and effective civil service in Kogi State.

He also expressed appreciation for her commendation of staff attendance, describing it as a morale-boosting gesture.

As Mrs. Musa begins her tenure, expectations remain high for tangible reforms that will transform the Kogi State civil service into a more responsive and efficient institution.

Her early moves suggest a leadership style rooted in engagement, collaboration, and strategic alignment.

Yet, the broader challenge persists: can entrenched bureaucratic systems truly evolve into dynamic engines of development?

Or will reform efforts once again be slowed by the weight of long-standing institutional habits?

For now, her appointment represents a fresh opportunity—one that could redefine the role of the civil service in shaping governance outcomes in Kogi State.
