Nigeria Police Repatriates Chinese Fugitive, Dai Qisheng, to Beijing
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Mr. Dai Qisheng, to the People’s Republic of China in a decisive operation coordinated by the INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja.

Force spokesperson DCP Muyiwa Adejobi disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that the operation was conducted in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.
Background of the Fugitive
Dai Qisheng, described as a notorious gang leader in Guizhou Province, China, was wanted by the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County for allegedly orchestrating and leading violent organised crimes. He fled China in 2024 after a warrant for his arrest was issued, eventually seeking refuge in Nigeria.
Following intelligence gathering and surveillance, operatives of INTERPOL Abuja tracked and arrested him in Abuja on 8 August 2025.
He was later repatriated on 15 August 2025 to Beijing under an established framework of police-to-police cooperation facilitated by INTERPOL.

Nigeria’s Strong Message Against Transnational Crime
In its statement, the Nigeria Police stressed that the successful operation reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Nigeria will never serve as a safe haven for international fugitives.
“This operation not only reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds a safe haven within Nigeria but also reflects the strength of international partnerships in addressing the increasingly complex threats of global crime networks,” Adejobi stated.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, also commended the collaborative effort, stressing that the arrest and repatriation send a strong warning to criminal networks worldwide.
“The Federal Republic of Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives. Borders will never become barriers to justice,” the IGP affirmed.
Global Cooperation Against Organised Crime
The successful repatriation of Dai Qisheng highlights the growing importance of intelligence-sharing, operational collaboration, and international policing alliances in combating transnational organised crime.
Security experts say the move strengthens Nigeria’s credibility in the global security community and demonstrates its determination to combat both domestic and international criminal threats.
