Nigerian Student Stabbed to Death in Leicester as Police Launch Murder Investigation
A 20-year-old Nigerian student studying in the United Kingdom, Khaleed Oladipo, has died after being stabbed near De Montfort University in Leicester, an incident that has sparked grief among family, friends, and members of the Nigerian community abroad.
Fatal Stabbing Near University Campus
Akahi News gathered that Oladipo, a cyber security student in his second year at De Montfort University, was attacked on Tuesday evening along Oxford Street, close to the university campus. Police said they were alerted shortly after 5:00 pm GMT following reports that a young man had collapsed near the junction with Bonners Lane.

Emergency responders, including four ambulances and an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save him, Oladipo later died in hospital from injuries sustained during the attack.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was a stab wound to the chest.
Police Arrest Suspect as Investigation Continues
Leicestershire Police confirmed that an 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody while investigations continue. Authorities said extensive inquiries are ongoing as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Several roads in the city centre, including Infirmary Road, Oxford Street, Infirmary Square, Carlton Street, York Road, Lower Brown Street, The Gateway, and Gosling Street, were temporarily closed as officers secured the area and carried out forensic examinations.
According to information available to Akahi News, police have urged anyone with relevant information or footage to come forward to assist with the investigation.
Family Pays Emotional Tribute
In a heartfelt tribute, Oladipo’s family described him as an “extremely loved” young man whose death has left them devastated. They expressed gratitude to members of the public who attempted to help him at the scene, as well as to ambulance and hospital staff who tried to save his life.
The family said the young student was passionate about football and had played the sport from an early age. An Arsenal supporter, they believe he was on his way home to watch his team play when the incident occurred.
“He was a good boy who loved his family,” the family said, adding that they were proud of his academic journey and future ambitions.
Concerns Over Student Safety
The tragic incident has renewed conversations around student safety in major UK cities, particularly in areas close to university campuses where young people frequently move between academic and residential locations.
Observers note that while violent crimes involving students remain relatively rare, such cases often trigger wider discussions on public safety, youth violence, and community policing.
For many Nigerians studying abroad, the incident has also underscored growing concerns about security and the vulnerability of international students navigating unfamiliar environments.
A Life Cut Short
As investigations continue, tributes have continued to pour in from fellow students, friends, and members of the wider community, many describing Oladipo as hardworking, respectful, and full of promise.
The circumstances surrounding the attack remain under investigation, with authorities expected to release further updates as inquiries progress.
