Ogun Police Arrest Man Allegedly Found With Four Human Heads After Cemetery Exhumation
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man, identified as Gafaru Rasaki, for allegedly exhuming human remains from a cemetery in Sagamu and being found in possession of four human heads, in a case that has raised fresh concerns about the desecration of burial grounds and public safety.
Akahi News gathered that the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Shakura Police Division on January 21, 2026, following intelligence reports and subsequent investigation.

Police Confirm Arrest and Recovery of Exhibits
According to a statement issued on Thursday in Abeokuta by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Rasaki was arrested after police discovered the human remains in his possession.
The spokesperson disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly exhumed the remains from a cemetery in Sagamu without lawful authority.
“This is an act amounting to disregard for corpses and a serious violation of the law,” Babaseyi stated, adding that the recovered exhibits had been secured as investigations continue.
Legal Implications and Ongoing Investigation
Cases involving the unlawful handling or desecration of human remains are treated as serious criminal offences under Nigerian law, often attracting strict penalties due to their cultural, moral, and legal implications.
Akahi News learnt that the police are continuing investigations to determine whether other individuals may be connected to the incident or if the act was carried out for ritual-related purposes, although authorities have not officially confirmed any such motive.
The command further stated that the suspect would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Police Warn Against Cemetery Desecration
Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Ogun State Police Command warned that anyone found engaging in acts involving the desecration of human remains would face the full weight of the law.
Security observers note that such incidents often generate fear within communities, prompting calls for improved surveillance around cemeteries and stricter enforcement against criminal activities involving burial sites.
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about crimes linked to the unlawful handling of human remains and underscores the need for vigilance by both law enforcement and community members. Authorities have urged residents to report suspicious activities promptly as investigations continue.
