The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Monday appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja for the continuation of his ongoing trial on terrorism-related charges.

Akahi News gathered that Kanu, who has been representing himself since his legal team withdrew from the case, was calm and composed as he entered the courtroom. Addressing journalists shortly before proceedings began, the IPOB leader reaffirmed his faith in divine justice, stating, “God in Heaven is the God of Justice.”
During his brief remarks, Kanu expressed displeasure over what he described as a misleading report by a correspondent from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Though he did not elaborate, he alleged that the report misrepresented his statements and actions in court. According to him, truth and justice would ultimately prevail despite attempts to distort facts about his case.
Growing Attention on Kanu’s Self-Representation
Akahi News learnt that Monday’s hearing follows a series of recent dramatic turns in the long-running case. In a surprising move, Kanu decided to personally handle his own legal defence after parting ways with his previous lawyers. He has also persistently demanded to be transferred from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) to a correctional facility, arguing that his continued detention under the DSS violates his fundamental rights.
Observers noted that the IPOB leader’s decision to represent himself adds a new layer of complexity to the already sensitive trial, which has drawn national and international attention.
Public and Global Interest
Kanu’s trial continues to attract the close attention of human rights groups, legal observers, and pro-Biafra supporters across the globe. Many view the proceedings as a test of Nigeria’s judicial independence and commitment to fair trial standards under democratic governance.
As the case resumes, all eyes remain on the Federal High Court in Abuja to determine how the legal battle over the IPOB leader’s fate will unfold in the coming weeks.
