The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has officially commenced its orientation programme for newly admitted students for the 2025 academic session, marking the beginning of another chapter in the institution’s long-standing tradition of academic excellence and cultural vibrancy.

Long Queues as Freshers Troop into the Amphitheatre
According to Akahi News correspondence, Ilori Timileyin Ayobami Omokorede, who hinted us about the situation report, hundreds of enthusiastic new students were seen on a long queue leading into the university’s iconic Amphitheatre — the venue for the orientation exercise. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and curiosity as the students, fondly called “Freshers,” eagerly anticipated their official welcome into the university community.
Omokorede described the scene as “a blend of joy, anxiety, and fulfilment,” noting that many students were visibly thrilled to finally step into one of Nigeria’s most prestigious higher institutions.
Welcoming Freshers to the OAU Family
Akahi News gathered that the orientation exercise is designed to familiarise the new intakes with the academic, administrative, and social life on campus. The programme, which spans several days, includes lectures, departmental introductions, and interactive sessions with university officials, student leaders, and key stakeholders.
Top university officials are expected to address the students on issues of discipline, academic integrity, and the unique culture that defines life at OAU. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire, is also expected to deliver the official welcome address, highlighting the institution’s core values and expectations from the new students.

Preparing for Academic and Social Integration
The orientation programme, Akahi News learnt, will also feature sessions on safety, mental health, and opportunities for student engagement. University authorities emphasised that the exercise aims to prepare the students not only for academic success but also for holistic personal development during their stay on campus.
Some returning students who spoke with Akahi News described the orientation period as one of the most memorable experiences of university life. They advised the new entrants to make the most of the event by paying attention to guidance from lecturers, student affairs officers, and senior colleagues.
A New Beginning for the Class of 2025
As the Amphitheatre continues to buzz with excitement, the 2025 OAU fresh students are set to embark on a journey that promises not only intellectual growth but also a deeper sense of identity and belonging within the vibrant academic community.
With the start of this orientation, the Obafemi Awolowo University reaffirms its commitment to nurturing responsible citizens, critical thinkers, and future leaders who will contribute meaningfully to society.
