Police Arrest Suspected Ritual Killers and Cultists in Osun State

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended eight individuals in connection with a brutal attack on a teenage boy in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, in what authorities suspect to be a ritual-related crime.

Police sources revealed that the victim, identified as 16-year-old Faruq Abudu, was attacked on 26 July 2025 while working in a bush at the Arademi Area of Ikire. He sustained deep cuts to his abdomen and scrotum after allegedly being lured by the suspects. His cries for help drew the attention of security operatives, who swiftly intervened and rescued him. The teenager was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to the University College Hospital for advanced treatment.

The arrested suspects include Ismail Abiodun (22), Usman Ademola (22), Yonke Akinwale (female), Fatai Abiodun, Fatai Sikiru, Tawa Inakonko, Idowu Adesina, and Awotunde Saudat (female). Police investigations suggest the attack was orchestrated for ritual purposes, with possible links to cult-related activities.

In a related operation, the police Anti-Cultism Unit arrested two members of the Eiye confraternity on 30 July 2025 at the Osun State Polytechnic junction in Iree. The suspects, both aged 22, reportedly confessed their involvement in cult activities during interrogation.

Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with the suspects to be charged in court upon completion of the probe. He reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling ritual killings and cultism, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.

The arrests mark another significant move by Osun police in curbing ritual crimes, which have been a recurring concern in the state. Authorities maintain that decisive law enforcement and community cooperation remain key to eradicating such crimes.
