Police Launch Probe into Killing of Osogbo Worshipper After Mosque Prayers
By Joseph Iyaji | Akahi News
Authorities in Osun State have begun investigating the shocking killing of a worshipper, Monrufu Adebisi, who was reportedly attacked shortly after leaving a mosque in Osogbo. The incident, which occurred on Monday morning at Church Street, Dada Estate, has left residents unsettled and searching for answers.

Discovery of the Body Causes Panic
Akahi News gathered that Adebisi, a familiar face in the community, had just completed his morning prayers before tragedy struck. Residents said the area was relatively quiet when the lifeless body was discovered by a passer-by heading to his farm.
According to eyewitnesses, panic quickly spread through the neighbourhood as people woke to the news of the killing. One resident, identified as Kikelomo, told journalists that locals were shocked because Adebisi was known to many and there had been no sign of trouble prior to the discovery.
Police Confirm Investigation
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that investigations were already underway to unravel the circumstances behind Adebisi’s death.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, explained that the body was found around 6:30 a.m. by a farmer, Mr Oyewole, who immediately reported the matter to the Dada Estate Police Station.
“Upon receiving the report, officers visited the scene, evacuated the body, and commenced preliminary investigations. Our intelligence team is on the ground, and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” Ojelabi said.
He assured residents that the police would leave no stone unturned in ensuring justice for the victim and restoring calm to the area.
Security Concerns Amid Recent Police Gains
The incident comes at a time when the Osun State Police Command has recorded several breakthroughs against crime in the state. On 11 September, seven suspects were arrested over alleged armed robbery, attempted murder, and cult-related violence in Ile-Ife and Iree.
In one case, 23-year-old Johnson Olagoke and his accomplices were accused of luring commercial motorcyclists to remote areas before attacking them and stealing their motorcycles, cash, and phones. Police operatives, through intelligence-led operations, apprehended Olagoke and recovered stolen motorcycles while efforts continue to arrest others at large.
Community Awaits Answers
While investigations into Adebisi’s death continue, residents of Dada Estate have urged the police to expedite action and enhance security in the area to prevent similar tragedies.
As of the time of this report, no arrests had been announced in connection with the killing. The Osun State Police Command has, however, assured the public that progress in the case will be communicated as soon as possible.
