Prof. Joshua Ogunwole Appointed as New Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE

The Governing Council of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has officially announced the appointment of Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, a distinguished scholar in soil ecosystem, as the new Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

FUOYE Gets New Leadership

According to information obtained by Akahi News, Prof. Ogunwole, who currently serves as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Strategic Partnership, Research, Innovation, and Linkages, will assume office as FUOYE’s fifth substantive Vice-Chancellor in February 2026. He will succeed Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, whose tenure has been widely acknowledged for remarkable infrastructural advancements across the university.

In a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Foluso Ogunmodede, the appointment was ratified during a Governing Council meeting held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, under the chairmanship of Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), the institution’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council.

The statement read in part:

“Today, Thursday, November 6, 2025, brings to an end a very long and difficult process of getting a new Vice-Chancellor for FUOYE.”

It further revealed that the recruitment process commenced in August 2025, following a public advertisement for the vacant position.

Pro-Chancellor Urges Unity and Cooperation

Senator Ndoma-Egba, while congratulating Prof. Ogunwole, urged all members of the university community to embrace peace and support the new administration. He expressed optimism that the appointment would mark a new era of academic excellence and institutional harmony.

“The appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor has brought with it rancour and acrimony to the campus and outside it. By this appointment, all these should stop. I advise all applicants to sheathe their swords and join the new Vice-Chancellor to build the university,” he stated.

The Pro-Chancellor also commended the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, for his leadership and developmental strides, noting that he “towers above his predecessors in terms of infrastructure development.”

Appreciation and Presentation

In his closing remarks, Senator Ndoma-Egba lauded members of the Governing Council for their commitment, doggedness, and thoroughness throughout the selection process, acknowledging their collective efforts in ensuring transparency and merit-based decision-making.

He later presented the official letter of appointment to Prof. Ogunwole, marking the beginning of a new chapter in FUOYE’s academic journey.
